The prefix
Pendlemist was registered with the GCCF in 1965 when I first
became interested in breeding and showing Siamese cats. The details
and pictures of our early days are documented on our other website
- Pendlemists
Past and Present.
As our contacts with other breeders in the
North of England expanded so did my knowledge and love of other
breeds. I saw the beautiful Persians of Heather Dalley and her
mother Doreen, and the fabulous British Shorthairs of Irene Entwistle
(Ryelands) and Beryl Stewart (Sweethope). It was on a visit to
see new Sweethope babies in 1972 that Beryl introduced me to
my first Scottish Fold. Eddie Grayson (Martina) who lived in
the same village as Beryl was the owner and had shown real enthusiasm
for the breed. It was said that these cats were not going to
be recognised by the GCCF and that some were being exported to
America. I loved their expression and temperament. Dedication
was already being shown by the very few owners of these cats
and Beryl was happy to help with the breeding programme. Breeding
and show interests of my own took me in another direction and
I didn't get the chance to handle another Fold until Judging
at a French show many years later. A huge and handsome Black
& White Bi-Colour who went overall Best in Show stole my
heart away and I set out to find myself a Fold. I determined
that if I could not get one in the UK I would have to import
from Europe. I did not have to go to Europe as fate would have
it...... I had my first delightful girl from one of the original
Scottish Fold breeders -Mrs Mary Stringer (Tikikats). |
